FINAL DEGREE PROJECT
Walking art and running art
Through walking art and running art I immerse myself in the constantly changing landscape, creating a series of unique and unrepeatable experiences. The walks and runs are my main artworks, however as these journeys are impossible to accurately document, I respond to my experiences using a combination of mixed media drawings and stone lithographs.

WALKING ART
I enjoy walking within my local area, a journey as simple as my daily commute can be transformed into a meditative experience. I see the familiar faces of people I pass regularly, the distinct smell of sulphur fills the air around The Fabric Mill and I feel the spray of water from the car wash on my face. My memories of these walks direct the creation of mixed media drawings and influence their muted colour palette. The tiniest details within the concertinas replicate my fascination with easily overlooked discoveries made throughout the series of walks.

RUNNING ART
Before beginning this project I had no running experience, the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts gave me the confidence to begin. The art of running provides an intense focus on myself; I notice which part of my foot hits the ground first and the rhythm of my breathing compared with my strides, as I push my limits to run further each time. The prints made in response are the result of blind drawings on a lithography stone completed immediately after a run. Replaying the podcast I listened to as I ran combined with my heightened adrenaline level injects an incredible energy into the prints.

DEGREE SHOW PLAN
Although the degree show did not go ahead, I constructed a model of what I planned to show which is pictured above.
